Season 2 : Episode 11 Unmasking Trauma: Confronting Shame, Guilt, and Isolation

In this compelling episode, we explore the concept of ‘emotional masks’—the protective fronts we often put up in response to trauma. Our guest, Traumatology Counselor Akua Feathers, helps us navigate through the complex territories of these masks, such as isolation, shame, and guilt. We discuss their impact, how they might intensify our trauma, and the journey towards unmasking and healing.

Our guest, Akua Feathers, is not just a Traumatology Counselor but also a survivor herself who has guided many through their healing journey. Her expertise and personal experiences breathe life into the discussion, offering a unique perspective on the concept of emotional masks and the healing process.

I’m Akua Rose Feathers a goofy, intellectual, queer, creative, humorous, and innovative coach/trainer with a flair for the dramatic. In 6 months, I’ll have my Ph.D. in Human Development with a concentration on Traumatology Counseling to add to my other degrees and coaching certifications. In my earlier years, I endured sexual, mental, physical, and emotional abuse and always felt that I was unaccepted or unacceptable. Other people saw a smart, strong woman, but I was insecure and afraid to be myself. Thankfully I knew I was created for more than that. I knew (and still know) that my purpose is to help others get to a place where they prosper and thrive. I committed myself to my healing process and education so I could intentionally and responsibly fulfill my purpose. Now, I coach and teach other women how to prioritize themselves so they can confront and conquer limiting beliefs, self-doubt, acts of self-sabotage, and victim mindsets so they can show up as their best selves. I help them learn to live life from where they are just as they are.
